New Direction: Chargers' 2026 Coordinator Questions

The Los Angeles Chargers are entering the 2026 season with high expectations following the hiring of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary. Analysts are focused on whether McDaniel’s creative playcalling can reduce the physical toll on quarterback Justin Herbert while finally pushing the team past the wildcard round. On the other side of the ball, O'Leary faces the challenge of maintaining a top-tier defense by effectively rotating a talented group of pass rushers, including veteran Khalil Mack and rookie Akheem Mesidor. The team's success likely hinges on McDaniel’s ability to establish a strong run game and O'Leary’s capacity to create pressure in obvious passing situations. Ultimately, these leadership changes represent a strategic effort by head coach Jim Harbaugh to elevate the franchise into a Super Bowl contender.
