New Fangled Justice

from Tonto: Tales of the Lone Ranger · host OTRPODS

Originally Aired: May 13, 1938The Lone Ranger #826, "New Fangled Justice," opens with a heated confrontation between Sheriff Steve Tucker and U.S. Marshal Dan Callaway over the changing nature of frontier justice. Tucker is furious that smooth-talking Slim Carter has escaped prosecution for the murder of Bart Jones and the robbery of Pete Frisbee's savings, claiming the new requirement for solid proof lets criminals go free. Callaway insists that the old vigilante methods must give way to proper legal proceedings where a man is innocent until proven guilty. Tucker threatens to bring wealthy mine owner Zeke Merrill to confirm Carter's guilt, but Callaway dismisses it as mere hearsay. The tension escalates when Tucker discovers that Zeke's daughter Nancy is preparing to marry Slim Carter and leave for the East. Carter claims Zeke has given his blessing, but Tucker is convinced the cunning criminal is lying. When Tucker tries to stop the marriage, Carter pulls a gun on him. The sheriff vows to bring Zeke back from his mine claim to expose the truth, while Nancy remains convinced that Carter is an innocent man being persecuted by outdated frontier justice.
