New Florida Bill Would Allow 14-Year-Olds to Work Overnight and Remove Meal Breaks for 16- and 17-Year-Olds

from The Family Court Podcast · host Moustapha Kebe

A new bill aimed at relaxing child labor laws was introduced to a Florida Senate committee this week. This follows some restrictions that were already loosened last year. Governor Ron DeSantis and some Republican lawmakers believe this bill will help fill jobs left vacant by undocumented immigrants. Senate Bill 918 would allow children as young as 14 to work overnight shifts and would eliminate meal break requirements for 16- and 17-year-olds. It would also let them work unlimited hours during the school year. If kids aged 14 to 15 have graduated high school or are enrolled in online or at-home programs, they could work without any restrictions. Please like, comment and subscribe.
