New Jersey lifts monthslong drought warning following recent rain
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Recent rain has lifted the region out of a drought. New Jersey officially lifted the statewide drought warning on Thursday; it had been in effect since December. Last weekend's nor'easter is only partly to thank. There have been above-normal rain totals in the last 90 days, according to the Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center. Parts of Atlantic, Ocean and Burlington counties, as well as Montgomery County, are still considered "abnormally dry," but the National Weather Service says that's because groundwater levels "have not recharged sufficiently yet."
