I disagree with much which is being said, not because it’s factually incorrect, but because it focuses on funding, which is important, but not primary in my view. My reports are an AI composition experiment, so eventhough this one is a failure, I offer it to the listener as documentation of a relationship. It’s ironic that the header of this Report--Night Wind of my PHAROS, written for and played by the ASKO Ensemble, me conducting--was actually recorded at IRCAM, Paris, in OCTOBER of 1982. The EIC wanted to play it, but I was skeptical because I thought the piece was beyond not the great talent of their individual performers, but outside their narrow philosophy of NEW MUSIC. ……
