New Sodom
from Reality Church Vancouver // Spirit+Truth ~ Community+Compassion ~ Renewal+Rest ~ realityvancouver.com · host Pastor Kris Martens
The book of Judges, in fine 21st century storytelling form, ends with a prequel - a 2-part story that chronologically occurred before any of the famous judges were raised up. This epilogue forms one of the most heinous, uncomfortable and depraved stories in the whole of Scripture. And it serves to shed light on the reality of life & community & identity apart from God. The narrator illuminates the reality of evil and its devastating consequences on religious life, on community & on the individual. But tucked into this tale of blood & gore & civil war, there's a remarkable story of grace. Tenacious grace that's stronger than utter depravity. Yet we're left with the bitter aftertaste of life without a King & Savior. Judges concludes with its oft-repeated cadence: in those days there was no king in Israel; and everyone did what was right in his own eyes. But this is not the end. For a True King, a True Deliverer, a True Judge is coming. Come Lord Jesus, come.
