Richard Kelly (director) John wants to know what happened to Richard Kelly, director of indy-breakout Donnie Darko, since 2001. The 2001 dark sci-fi indy feature Donnie Darko was a hit at the festivals early in the year. It had to contend with the September 11, 2001 terror attack on New York that occurred just as it was slated for national theatrical release. Richard Kelly has directed a couple features since Donnie Darko; Southland Tales and The Button, both are science fiction.
