White Helmets (documentary) An Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize - these do-gooders have got the gold, but their story is far from luxurious and peaceful. Jules brings this documentary about a Syrian civil defense force as his pick. Be wary of the disinformation and conspiracy sites out there touting that this is terrorist linked propaganda. Syria has powerful backers, like Russia, and misinformation and spurious conspiracy theories abound. There are some powerful moments, like the rescue of an infant from beneath a bombed out building. John is a little bit skeptical- because the film is moving and outside his experiences, so he is wary of being manipulated. This is a work of solid documentary making and the hands of the documentarian are well hidden, the people and events speak literally for themselves. White Helmets is available on Netflix.
