New Tool Theft Legislation Needed

from Clare FM · host Clare FM

Tool theft continues to be a growing problem across the country, with tradespeople in counties including Limerick, Donegal, Dublin and Kildare among the latest victims.   It's an issue that's also been affecting many workers here in East Clare, where stolen tools can mean lost income, cancelled jobs, and higher insurance costs.   Now, Fine Gael Senator PJ Murphy is calling for tougher penalties, including a mandatory minimum three-year prison sentence for the theft, burglary, robbery or handling of stolen work equipment.   Joining Alan Morrissey to discuss the impact of these crimes and whether new legislation is the answer were Matthew Moroney, Founder of East Clare Community Alerts, and Fine Gael Senator PJ Murphy.
