https://acommunitythrives.mightycause.com/story/Kidney4jeromehttps://www.gofundme.com/f/kidney4jeromeJerome Surles is awaiting a new lease on life. Ten years ago, while undergoing a routine health checkup, he was diagnosed with stage 2 renal disease. This diagnosis came as a surprise to Jerome as he doesn’t have a family history of this condition. Unfortunately, his health has continued to decline. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary. While awaiting his transplant, he endures regular dialysis treatments, which leave him exhausted and take a toll on his quality of life.During such a challenging time, Jerome is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system. His beautiful wife, Kiya, their four children, and two grandchildren, have been by his side every step of the way providing much needed love and encouragement. While it has been very hard for Jerome and Kiya, these circumstances have also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Jerome looks forward to the kidney transplant that will allow him to live his life fully again. More than anything, he would like to return to coaching, working on his cars, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, but right now, he needs your help.Unfortunately, Jerome’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price. The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.Jerome must travel to reach his transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Jerome and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital during recovery, adding to the financial strain. You can help by making a tax-deductible donation in any amount. This will go a long way to aid in supporting Jerome and his family during this time.If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to:Jerome Surles14012 Hadley RunSan Antonio, TX 78233Thank you for your generosity!Transplant Center: Methodist Specialty and Transplant HospitalA nonprofit fundraiser supportingNational Foundation for Transplants, Inc.Transplant Type: KidneyWhat if you were living on borrowed time?
