New Wine Tastings - Talking to the Choir? COVID Restrictions at Church

Sometimes you’ll hear someone say “I’m talking to the choir” when engaging those who think the same way as they do on an issue. However, we are facing more often than not in our churches and broader cultural settings today the challenge that not everyone thinks the same way as we do on a variety of issues. We may even find that our churches are divided on recent governmental restrictions related to COVID and that we are not speaking to the choir much of the time. Take, for example, Washington’s governor’s determination not to allow congregational or choir singing (on top of the already existing regulations requiring reduced attendance and wearing of masks in public worship) in light of COVID. We will delve into this subject at New Wine Tastings today in the hopes of gaining greater understanding and clarity on the issues while also safeguarding empathy and care for those who think differently than we do. That way, even though we may not end up seeing matters the same way or speaking to the choir on every issue, at least we truly see and understand one another in pursuit of grace and truth.
