Christ took Action and stood for change dying for our sins because of His deep love for us.  In the truth of redemption there is found a radicalness unparalleled throughout history. That is, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is such a lover of the other, He seeks out those who are at once passionate persecutors of Him and His people. He seeks them out in love in order to redeem the bat out of hell in me and in you. It is an act of transformation - in Christ, through the Spirit. Transforming the persecutor into one passionately pursuing love (story of Paul, me & you). How is the follower of Christ to act in a time when love of self is a powerful force?

That is, trinitarian bridge-building from racism to peacemaking. Ø The question remains “how should my core value of a Trinitarian Theology impact my faith seeking understanding and action? How do I participate in the bridge-building from racism to peacemaking? What does it mean to procure peace? Peacemaking should move from seeking vengeance or avoiding conflict to reconciling relationships and making society whole. Being a bridge-builder is to be compelled by the love of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14) in God’s ministry of reconciling the world to Himself. As Jesus’ followers, we are invited to participate in the ministry of reconciliation and this should serve as our catalyst for the movement from racism to peacemaking. We can all publicly take a stand as peacemakers. Then, we need to do the work.

While today concludes this series in its present form, we will continue to dialogue the issue of racism in the context of SELF-GIVING, OTHER FOCUSED LOVE OF ONE ANOTHER as reflected in Father, Son and Holy Spirit in whatever we engage. This has been a profound movement of our discussion of Trinitarian Theology into its impact on race. This week we continue to press into the stories of life as they relate to personal and systemic racism so to bring to light the evil horrors of racism. Our stories are illuminating, difficult, tragic, elevating. They are stories of the human. They are hard to hear and share…but they are necessary.  The question remains “how should my core value of a Trinitarian Theology impact racism?”

The discussion this morning continues the movement into Trinitarian relational theology and its impact on race. Last week a little bit was shared about the Doctrine of Discovery……a Papal Bull of the 1400’s, as the beginning of the social construct of racism in this country. Its impact continues to this day. Over the week we were asked to think about how our history impacts the posture of our hearts and lifestyle. How does my core values, or lifestyle, impact racism?

How does a Trinitarian, Christ-centered theology play out in how we see the “other”?  Where the body of Christ gets it right and where it does not.  Theology, the Trinity... Where do we even start?  As the Christian Scriptures reveal, the human is created in the image of the Trinity – A Godhead that does not remain absent or quiet throughout the course of history. We are not talking about a God hidden behind divine revelation. Rather, God is for us fully revealed and fully concealed in His self-disclosure.   The Christian Scriptures calls the reader into transformation –conversion—which is not a static event, something that happens once in a lifetime, but a continual process of turning toward the Son, who leads us, in union with the Holy Spirit, into an ever-deepening relationship with the Father. Thus, we are brought into the very life of the Trinity, that communion of love without end.   The Trinity is the paradigm by which we are to live. It is dynamic in relation; thus, God's being is His eternal, intrinsic communion. So what then of today?

The discussion this morning flows from the newness of the year while continuing in the goodness of our Christmas celebrations. Truth is, Christmas lasts forty days – from Christmas eve to the presentation of the Christ child in the temple (Feb 2), according to the traditional liturgical calendar. And the 12 days of Christmas that run from the 25th of Dec through Jan 6th are known as Epiphany. Epiphany is the entrance – the presentation of hope, peace, joy to all of humanity– the reality of love with us. After all, God is “with us”—Emmanuel. Jesus manifests the divine presence in his entire incarnate state. So Where do we find ourselves this week? A couple days before the Biblical manifestation/presentation of Jesus for the world’s sake? Is the inn of our heart open for guests, or have we already closed off to all that stands before us?
