# New York Surf Zone Forecast - Wednesday June 10th through Sunday Good morning! Here's your New York surf zone forecast brought to you by the National Weather Service. Starting with today, we're looking at consistent conditions across all our beach zones with moderate rip current risk and surf heights hovering around three to four feet depending on where you are. The water temperature is chilly, ranging from the lower sixties out east to the upper sixties closer to Brooklyn. Very High UV Index today, so get that sunscreen on before you head out. Weather-wise, expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms moving through. Brooklyn and Queens are looking at moderate thunderstorm potential, while our friends out in southeastern Suffolk will see just a slight chance. Temperatures will reach the lower to mid seventies, and winds are coming from the south at around ten to fifteen miles per hour. It's not the warmest day we'll see this week, but it's still a solid beach day if you can work around those occasional showers. Moving into Thursday, things are warming up nicely. Highs will climb into the mid to upper eighties for western zones, with southeastern areas settling in the lower eighties. Partly sunny skies, moderate thunderstorm potential across the board, and still that moderate rip current risk. Surf heights remain steady around four feet, and winds shift to the southwest, calming down to around ten miles per hour. Brooklyn's expecting a max heat index in the upper nineties, so you'll want to cool off in the water. Friday looks like our best beach day of the forecast period. We're calling for mostly sunny conditions with only a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The severe weather threat really backs off. Highs range from the mid seventies out east to the mid eighties closer to the city. Surf heights start dropping slightly, and winds remain light from the southwest. Saturday continues the sunny trend with mostly sunny skies across all zones and highs in the upper seventies to mid eighties. Northwest winds around ten miles per hour will give us a nice refreshing breeze. This is shaping up to be an excellent beach day. Wrapping up the week on Sunday, we've got sunny conditions nearly everywhere with highs in the mid to upper seventies. Southwest winds around ten miles per hour and that moderate rip current risk remains a concern, so remember to check in with your local lifeguards before entering the water. Throughout this entire forecast period, keep in mind that moderate rip current risk means life-threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone. If you're planning to enter the water, always check with local beach patrols first. Swim within sight of a lifeguard, never alone, and never at night. If you do get caught in a rip current, remember to relax and float. Don't swim against the current. Instead, swim parallel to the shore if you can, and if you're unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help. So there you have it. We start cooler with afternoon storms, warm up nicely by Thursday, and finish the week with beautiful sunny conditions. Get out there and enjoy New York's beaches, but stay safe and respect the ocean. This has been your New York surf zone forecast.
