New York Surf Forecast Sunday September 28 Small Waves Light Winds Perfect Beach Conditions

from Montauk Surf Report for Montauk New York · host Inception Point AI

Good morning, this is your New York surf zone forecast for Sunday, September 28th, brought to you by the National Weather Service. We're looking at a beautiful finish to the season across all our beaches today. Conditions are going to be quite similar from Brooklyn all the way out to the far east end of Long Island, so whether you're planning a trip to Coney Island, Rockaway Beach, Jones Beach, or out to the Hamptons, you're in for a treat. Let's talk about the waves first. Surf heights are holding steady around two feet across the board. It's not going to blow your mind, but it's a solid, manageable swell for the day. Perfect conditions if you're looking to get in the water without any surprises. Now, the good news on safety: rip current risk is low everywhere today. That said, always remember that life-threatening rip currents can pop up near groins, jetties, reefs, and piers without warning, so stay alert out there. Weather-wise, expect mostly cloudy skies early, transitioning to sunny conditions by midday. Most areas will clear out between noon and one o'clock. Temperatures are going to be comfortable, ranging from the mid to upper seventies depending on where you are. Brooklyn will be slightly warmer in the upper seventies, while the eastern beaches will hover in the mid seventies. Winds will be light today, starting out of the southeast and east around five miles per hour before shifting to the south and southwest this afternoon. Really calm conditions overall. The water temperature is cooling down as we move into late September. Brooklyn and central beaches are sitting in the lower seventies, while the far east end is running slightly cooler in the upper sixties. A wetsuit might start looking pretty good if you're planning to spend extended time in the water. We've got moderate UV conditions today, so don't forget your sunscreen even though the air is cooling down. High tides are happening right around midday everywhere, with Coney Island high tide at 12:39, East Rockaway and Jones Inlet around 12:30 to 12:36, and Shinnecock Inlet at 12:31. Sunrise is around 6:45 to 6:48 depending on your location, and sunset is happening right around 6:42 to 6:45. We're really seeing those days get shorter now. This is the last forecast of the season, so make it count. No thunderstorm potential today, light winds, manageable waves, and sunny skies. It's as good as it gets for late September. Get out there and enjoy the water.
