New York Surf Forecast Sunday September 28th 2 Foot Waves Upper 70s Sunny Skies Perfect Beach Day

from Montauk Surf Report for Montauk New York · host Inception Point AI

Good morning, this is your New York surf zone forecast for Sunday, September 28th, brought to you by the National Weather Service. Today is shaping up to be a beautiful beach day across the entire New York area. We're looking at consistent conditions from Brooklyn all the way out to the eastern end of Long Island, with around two feet of surf across the board. The water temperature is hovering in the upper 60s to lower 70s depending on where you are, so you might want to consider a light wetsuit if you're heading out early. Starting in Brooklyn, Coney Island and Manhattan Beach will see mostly cloudy skies until 9 AM, then clearing to sunny conditions. The high today reaches the upper 70s with light south winds around 5 miles per hour. High tide at Coney Island comes at 12:39 PM. Rip current risk remains low throughout the day. Moving out to Southern Queens and the Rockaway beaches, expect partly sunny skies until noon, then sunny for the rest of the day. It's slightly cooler out there with highs in the mid 70s. Winds start from the southeast around 5 miles per hour, shifting south this afternoon. The low tide is at 6:06 AM with high tide at 12:36 PM at East Rockaway Inlet. Down in Southern Nassau, including Jones Beach and Long Beach, you'll have partly sunny conditions until 1 PM before clearing out completely. Highs again in the mid 70s with southeast winds becoming southwest in the afternoon. High tide at Jones Inlet is at 12:23 PM. Heading further east to Southwestern Suffolk near Gilgo and Robert Moses State Parks, mostly cloudy skies transition to sunny by noon. Highs in the mid 70s with east winds becoming southwest this afternoon. Fire Island Inlet sees its high tide at 12:04 PM. And finally, at the eastern end of the island near Smith Point and Ditch Plains, mostly cloudy early then sunny by 1 PM. We're looking at mid 70s for the high with southeast winds becoming southwest. High tide at Shinnecock Inlet is at 12:31 PM. One important note to finish up: this is the last official forecast of the year. The UV index is moderate everywhere, so remember your sunscreen even though it's late September. All zones are showing a low rip current risk, but remember that life-threatening rip currents are always possible around structures like groins, jetties, reefs, and piers. If you do enter the surf, always have a flotation device with you and swim near a lifeguard. If you get caught in a rip current, stay calm, relax and float, and don't fight the current. Instead, swim parallel to the shore. If you can't escape, face the shore and signal for help. Sunrise this morning is between 6:41 and 6:48 AM depending on your location, with sunset coming early at 6:37 to 6:45 PM. It's a great day to get out there and enjoy the water.
