New York Weather: 02-20-2026

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the New York Weather Podcast. It's Friday, February 23rd, and New York can't agree on a season today. Western New York woke up at 45 degrees. That's 15 degrees above normal for late February. Feels like somebody left the door to spring open. Southwest winds are gusting to 24 miles an hour, though, so hold onto your hat. Enjoy the warmth while you can. Tonight those winds shift and temperatures crash back toward freezing. Now head east to the Capital Region. You're sitting at 29 degrees. Clouds thicken through the day, and by this afternoon, rain becomes likely. Light southwest breezes keep you just above freezing, but here's the thing. Wet roads could turn slick tonight as temps dip. Central New York is the cold stubborn one today. Starting at 31 degrees, and temperatures actually fall through the afternoon. Rain transitions to a wintry mix by evening near Syracuse and Utica. If you're driving that corridor, pack patience. Roads will get messy. Down in the city, folks, it's a crisp 38 degrees with light northwest winds. Mostly dry skies, just a slight chance of a stray shower. Air quality sits at moderate today, so sensitive lungs should take it easy. Tonight drops to the upper 20s under clearing skies. Here's your heads up for the weekend. Saturday starts sunny statewide, but a cold front sweeps through by afternoon. Snow showers are possible north of the Thruway. Highs struggle to hit 40 anywhere. Sunday rebounds slightly with partial sunshine and low 40s for most. One bright note. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. Sunrise at 6:33 A.M., sunset at 5:18 P.M. Spring's inching closer. Alright. If this forecast helped you plan your Friday, share it with someone who needs it. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Stay safe out there!
