New York Weather: 02-21-2026

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the New York Weather Podcast. It's Saturday, February 21st, and folks, here's the deal. Enjoy tonight's calm, because a monster nor'easter is about to punch this state right in the mouth. Right now, things are deceptively pleasant. New York City hit 47 degrees today under partly sunny skies. The Capital Region sat in the upper 30s under clouds. Western and Central New York saw a few snow showers with highs in the mid 30s. Nothing dramatic. That changes fast. Here's what's coming your way. Snow and rain creep into the city after 4 AM. The Capital Region sees light snow after 9 degrees AM, dropping to 27 degrees. Western New York stays cloudy with lows in the upper 20s. Sunday morning the storm arrives. Rain and snow mix early in the city, then heavy snow takes over by midday. Winds gust to 29 miles an hour. Temperatures slide from 38 degrees down to 34. The Capital Region and points west see steady snow with highs in the mid 30s. Sunday night is when this thing becomes a beast. Blizzard warnings are in effect for New York City, Long Island, and coastal Connecticut. You're looking at 11 to 17 inches in the city. Up to 20 inches on Long Island. Wind gusts hitting 45 to 55 miles an hour, with isolated blasts near 47 degrees. That's whiteout territory. Travel will be impossible. Coastal flooding brings a storm surge of 2.5 to 3.5 feet along western Long Island and the Sound. Move vehicles to higher ground tonight if you're near the water. Charge your devices. Stock up. Check on your neighbors. Monday the storm exits slowly. Blowing snow lingers. Highs barely crack the 30s. Tuesday brings sunshine but stays cold, upper 20s to low 30s. Wednesday another round of light snow moves through with highs near 40 degrees. Thursday and Friday stay active with rain or snow chances and highs climbing into the low 40s. One more thing. If this forecast helped you prepare, share it with someone who needs it. That five seconds could make a real difference tomorrow. Stay safe out there. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
