New York Weather 3/8 Midday - Flood Warning

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and that gray blanket overhead? It's about to lift. We're sitting at 52 degrees after a mild night, with patchy fog clinging to the coast and Long Island. Visibility's dropped to a quarter mile in spots, but that burns off by late morning. Here's the twist. Today's high hits 65 degrees in the city — about 23 degrees warmer than usual for early March. But don't get too comfortable. A cold front sweeps through this afternoon. And temperatures actually fall as cooler air filters in. By evening, you're back down to the low 60s. West winds pick up to 15 miles an hour with gusts near 20. Upstate tells a different story. The Capital Region tops out at 54 degrees. Western New York sees 45 with breezy southwest winds gusting to 35 miles an hour — hold onto your hats out there. Central New York lands right in the middle at 54. The fog clears faster inland, giving way to partly sunny skies by afternoon. Tonight turns clear and comfortable. Lows drop to the mid 40s in the city, upper 30s in the Capital Region. And around 40 elsewhere. Monday brings sunshine and warmth — highs climb to the mid 60s. Tuesday pushes even warmer with temperatures reaching the upper 60s statewide. Wednesday stays mild but clouds increase as a strong cold front approaches. That front hits Wednesday night into Thursday with widespread rain and heavy downpours possible. Behind it, temperatures crash. Friday drops to the low 40s with rain and snow showers mixing in. Saturday stays cool in the mid 40s to low 50s. Enjoy the mild weather while it lasts. See you this evening.
