A surge of mild air is flooding into New York, kicking off three days of unseasonable warmth. Down in the city, you'll hit 66 degrees this afternoon — nearly 20 degrees above normal. The Capital Region climbs from freezing this morning to 62 by afternoon. Western New York tops out at 57. Central New York? You win at 67 degrees. Sunshine dominates, with breezy southwest winds gusting to 20 miles an hour. But here's the catch. All that snowpack in the higher terrain? It's melting fast. Overnight lows only dip to the upper 30s to mid-40s, so the melt doesn't stop. Rivers are already running high from recent rain. The National Weather Service is watching the Housatonic and Sacandaga Rivers for potential minor flooding later this week. Tuesday cranks the heat even higher — upper 60s to near 70 statewide.
