New York Weather March 4 Evening - 27° Above Normal

from The New York Weather Podcast

Good evening. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. That bit of rain overnight cleared out, leaving us with mainly clear skies and a pleasant 45 degrees. It feels nice. But don't get used to it. In the next 24 hours. Here's the situation right now. Down in the New York City metro, you're sitting at 46 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Tonight, clouds thicken up fast. Rain arrives after 4 A.M., with lows dipping to 38 degrees. Head north and the story shifts. Western New York is sunny at 48 degrees. Central New York reaches 42. Both regions see rain by midday Thursday. But the Capital Region? that's where things get tricky. Tonight's low drops to 27 degrees with patchy fog developing after 11 P.M. Thursday brings rain. Then Thursday night, a wintry mix arrives. We're talking sleet and freezing rain overnight into Friday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Thursday evening through noon Friday. The Friday morning commute could be slippery. Thursday statewide is a wash. Rain spreads from west to east, with New York City seeing the steadiest precipitation through the day. Highs mostly in the low 40s. Here's the twist. This weekend, we warm up big time. Saturday, temperatures surge into the 50s and 60s across western and central New York. By Tuesday. New York City could hit 65 degrees. That's nearly 27 degrees above normal for early March. We're gaining almost three minutes of daylight each day now. Spring equinox is just two weeks away. Tonight's full moon shines through increasing clouds. Rain arrives before dawn Thursday. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
