Think of today as the weather catching its breath. Because changes are coming fast. In the next 24 hours. New York City sits at 46 degrees this afternoon with a chance of rain between 1 and 3 P.M. Tonight stays mild at 38 degrees, but rain returns after 4 A.M. Head north and the picture brightens — literally. The Capital Region enjoys sunny skies and 45 degrees. Tonight brings a sharp cooldown to 27 degrees with patchy fog developing after 11 P.M. Western New York also sees sunshine today, reaching 48 degrees. Clouds roll in tonight with a low of 33. Central New York hits 42 under mostly sunny skies, dropping to 32 tonight. Thursday tells a different story. Rain spreads statewide.
