New York’s Single Diploma Revolution | Montpelier News

New York is revolutionizing high school graduation by ditching the old Regents exam requirement, replacing it with a flexible, skills-based system that lets students prove mastery in diverse ways — all aimed at preparing them for college, careers, and citizenship. Starting with the 2028 class, diplomas will no longer hinge on passing specific exams, though those tests will still exist for honors and endorsements. The rollout begins with incoming ninth graders in 2029, with existing students transitioning gradually. The state’s “Portrait of a Graduate” framework drives this shift, ensuring students aren’t just earning credits — they’re building real-world readiness. Final details are still being ironed out, but the future of graduation is here. Listen in comfort: Get a discount on a Soli Pillow: http://solipillow.com/discount/dnn.
