New Zealand engineers use AI for earthquake recovery efforts

New Zealand engineers have been helping recovery efforts following recent earthquakes using artificial intelligence. Within hours of the devastating double quakes in Venezuela in June, engineers from the New Zealand Society for Earthquake Engineering used a data scraping tool to trawl though thousands of social media posts, to identify the locations of landslides and damaged buildings. Christchurch structural engineer and earthquake resilience firm Seismic Shift co-founder Ben Exton spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
