Jake has been training Jiu Jitsu for 7 years and is a purple belt under Mike Murrell of Cave Academy in Pacific, California (See Newaza Podcast Episode 1 for an interview with Mike Murrell). in 2021, Jake moved to Hawaii with his wife and started the YouTube channel, “Less Impressed More Involved BJJ” which to date has 29,000 subscribers. Today, Jake and I sat down to discuss his process of breaking down jiu-jitsu into understandable concepts and strategies to improve as quickly as possible by primarily studying live jiu-jitsu matches and instructional videos by credible sources. Specifically, we discussed half guard passing and touched on a bit of guard retention and methods of drilling to develop timely and accuracy as well.
