A glacially-dammed basin has released, triggering evacuation notices for residents of Juneau’s Mendenhall Valley, officials say. The natural gas supply outlook for Southcentral Alaska has grown increasingly precarious following a newly revealed dispute between the region’s primary gas utility and a major Cook Inlet producer. Alaska’s Division of Elections may have violated both state and federal law when it deactivated more than 3,000 voter registrations over citizenship questions, the legislature’s attorney said. The legal fallout could mean hundreds of lawsuits against the state.
