Newtown Planning Commission Recommends That Supervisors Deny Wawa’s Plan
from Mack's Newtown Voice · host Mack's Newtown Voice
At its April 5, 2022, public meeting, the Newtown Planning Commission (NTPC) failed to achieve a consensus to recommend that the Board of Supervisors (BOS) approve the latest Provco/Wawa Land Development Plan. This plan calls for building a Wawa “Superstore” – 12 pump gas station plus convenience store – at the intersection of the Newtown Bypass and Lower Silverlake Road. This project has a long history going back to at least 2018. This was not the first time Wawa representatives were interviewed by the NTPC. At its April 21, 2021, Zoom meeting, the NTPC discussed Provco’s Zoning Hearing Board “Special Exception” application that included requests for several variances of the E-30 ordinance: https://bit.ly/3ydEb4C The vote at this meeting was three in favor (Shelley Howland – first speaker, Warren Dallas – third speaker, and Mary Donaldson – fifth speaker) and three opposed (Terry Christensen – second speaker, Craig Deutsch – fourth speaker, and Peggy Driscoll, last speaker).
