Next Steps Initiative — Surrender

We have grown addicted to comfort, padding everything from our gear to our pews. This message warns that a faith optimized for ease eventually pads the message itself, turning the cross into decoration rather than a daily demand. From Luke 9:23 and 1 Corinthians 1, the teaching examines how the world sees the cross as foolishness and weakness, and how God deliberately chose that symbol of defeat to display his power. The recurring biblical pattern is that God uses the weak: Abraham was old, Moses stuttered, David failed. When we are at our weakest, we are exactly where God can show his strength. That truth frames the launch of a two-year generosity initiative. The distinction drawn is between agreeing with a calling and surrendering to it, including an honest confession that comfort can quietly take hold even of a pastor's faith.
