Nexus Gets Green Light, Signature Denied | Las Vegas News

Henderson’s city council just handed down a major charter school verdict: Nexus Charter School got the green light with conditions, while Signature Preparatory’s expansion bid was denied — sparking debate over transparency, funding, and shifting rules. Nexus, set to open grades 6-12 by 2027-28 for up to 570 students, must secure federal grants, revise finances, and win state approval for its unique competency-based model — all before becoming Henderson’s second city-backed charter school since new local authority laws took effect. Meanwhile, Signature Prep’s founder vows to resubmit, calling the denial unfair and pointing to their proven track record — as the mayor questions whether the review process itself is putting the city in a bind.
