NFL Rashee Rice’s High-Speed Car Crash and the “Free 4” Controversy

from We Win Injury Law · host Tyler Todd, Jaren Sandberg

It finally feels like fall in Utah. Football weather is here. The mornings are cool, the games aren’t burning hot, and October has been one of the best in years. That means football, baseball playoffs, hockey, and the NBA all kicking off. Then it turns to a serious NFL story. Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was driving a rented Lamborghini in Dallas, racing another car at 119 miles an hour, when he lost control and caused a six-vehicle crash. Several people were hurt with brain trauma and internal bleeding. Both drivers left the scene.Rice pled guilty to two third-degree felony charges for a collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway. He was sentenced to five years of probation, 30 days in jail served on weekends, and ordered to pay restitution to the victims. Soon after, players were seen wearing shirts that said Free Four. That is where the real debate started. Loyalty or justice. What happens when teammates defend reckless behavior that left people injured? How do you support someone without excusing what they did? The crash was not minor. It was 119 miles an hour through Dallas traffic, and people are still recovering.Free Four might sound like a slogan, but it dismisses real victims who are living with the consequences. Leaving the scene changes everything. Racing on a highway changes everything. Real justice is about accountability, not popularity.Leave early. Slow down. A day out to play should never end with a six-car crash and a brain injury.WE WIN FOR YOU.
