This is the place where sports fans can be and join me on the show. We have FIFA almost all the people first. Let's get. I know you.
You can see him today. People, Shelton, Spike and Nick. What's up? What's up?
What's up? Q said he'll be stopping by as well. But anyway, let us go ahead and jump into what everybody's here to here is our or our reactions to everything that transpired last week. And then there he is right there.
I didn't look at that. It's the best time of you, baby. But play off football. It's the best time of the year, FIFA.
It's almost over. It's the best time of the year. Wild car weekend. Is that on right now?
Not the best time of the year. I mean, it's what we got basketball. We got baseball playoffs and football just starting. We got October.
I told you, October, October is the best month for sports. Well, anyway, it's not the best time for the LA Chargers as they ended up. They can't use the Texas. The use of Texas took care of home field advantage by defeating the LA Chargers.
32 to 12. Did this win restore your confidence and CJ shroud as a star in this league? Shelton. Hey, it's so tough.
Do you have a cable? Is that a cable? It is a cable. It's a cable.
It's a cable. I'm cold, man. I'm cold. Yes, it is.
I'm gonna say, yeah. I'm gonna say, yeah, man. It's a cable. It's a cable.
It's a cable. There's one more playoff games than Justin Herbert has in a much similar time. CJ is one of these many playoff games that's got to look. So, you know, in saying that for a young man in the second year in the league, to come out and perform the way they did when a lot of people felt like their backs was against the wall, he deserves his credit for that.
Now, it's gonna be tough. It's gonna be tough next week as we already know. But for now, he did what he was supposed to do. You know, the name of the game is handling the business is supposed to handle.
When the game is supposed to win. And he did that, you know, and going forward, I think you'll see a better result from him. They look like they got some momentum. It's gonna be tough hitting that cheese wall, but I expect him to play well in this game with nothing else.
Based off what do you what do you what have you seen all season from CZ shroud that makes you think that he's going to play well in this game? It's a cheese. I've seen him. I've seen him be on steady, but you know, the fact of the matter remains, they want a division, even though, you know, a lot of people can say back into it, but he wanted regardless how the worst vision in football, the worst of his.
Second worst second worst. Yeah, that's what I was going to see North South. Yeah, it's the worst. But the fact that he's in there and made it and won his first round game, that's because volumes man and it does a lot for young man's confidence at this level.
All of this is one game. You got to win the next game in front of you and come out and do your job. Don't lose the game. That's the biggest thing.
Make sure you don't turn the ball over like a herb. Her name is named. Play so bad. Don't turn the ball over.
Keep your offense on the field. Keep your defense out of harm's way and win the games you can win. And that's what he did. That's what he did.
Neither of those things. Majority, okay, what you just said. Man, he wasn't that bad. That pick was, let me think about that pick.
No, that second pick. I think he had two picks or one of them. He just threw it up and the defender made he was like he was the receiver and he made a sideline catch. Yeah, see, see, he's had some of the of a sophomore slump.
That second half was better than the first half. But what I how I view them is the way I view them throughout the regular season, right? Like CJ has taken his regrets just a little bit. So I'm like, he's been good enough to show to this point to win the division.
In terms of Justin Herbert, we knew that he had the talent. The issue was clock management and situational football from the coaching staff. Obviously that has gotten better. They've gotten to the playoffs.
But realistically, what the charges when I watch them all year, including this game, they're just devoid of outside weapons. Like they're not explosive enough. And here's the thing, right? Like first and foremost, we know Greg Roman offenses are not necessarily explosive.
They're not vertical down the field, 30, 40 yard gains. We know that. And I'm not saying that they got to go get a homerun hitter like that because they're not going to utilize him like that. But Lamma Conkey is he's a baller, right?
Like like he is legit. He was deserving of where they drafted him. But outside of that, like who do they really have? Like it's it's they were they were a playoff team because they have really good talent on the defensive side and situationally, they were way better.
But Herbert to take those progression steps, right? Like he needs more weapons when he did have Keena Allen, even though he wasn't healthy, you know what I'm saying? Then he throws for close to 5,000 yards. You know what I'm saying?
So we know he has the talent. It just hasn't been able to be consistently a lot. Obviously the head coach and the staff is there. So I like Herbert.
I don't love Herbert. You could win with Herbert, right? So it's going to come down to the draft and free agency. I still view Herbert the same.
Can you win with Herbert? Yes. Can you win with CJ Shout? Hell yes.
But Shout just need more and more mango seasons, man. Like he's nice, but he just had a song for more. We'll see how he moves off from that. Um, for me, uh, confidence to shroud.
I don't, it's hard. I get someone was showing to say like, Shout is so early in his career. You don't really know what kind of community he's going to be just yet. He did play a hell of a second half after laying a fucking egg effort.
Like he didn't score a touchdown until the last minute of the second quarter. Like he never going to be shut out point wise period until that until he started just, you know, saying, fuck it, I got to do something because they don't buy six. They don't even know about a touchdown. That's it.
And then that goes on the other side with Herbert. They were dominating that first half and they only came away with six points and they were in the red zone at least, I think two or three times. And they got a fumble on the first play offensively for the Texans. So it was just kind of like, to me, this is what I always had criticism with Herbert.
It's like, yeah, he does all these great stats, but is he a winner? He's a big game, big game. And most of these games that he's done, he's been shitballed. Like he's through three picks.
He's been three picks all season and he do four and one first. Let me play off. You guys, that's great. Let me play off.
Let me ask you this, right? Like how like how good does bro would look without Jamar chase and or T Higgins? You know what I'm saying? Like he can so he himself, Herbert, we know he has the talent to be a really good quarterback in this league.
He don't have the help that's necessary. He don't have a guy that's equal to him on the outside or at the title. But my thing is it goes to your point, bro. Like he had talent though.
He had Keena Allen. He had a young Mike Williams. He's had he's had a loaded roster before granted. It was on the brand and Staley and everybody pushed that blame on the brand and Staley, but there was a push.
It was absorbed. It was again. They later just like how they laid the blame on Matt Eberflu's for Taylor Williams, Shittier. They did a lot of that with Justin Herbert.
But then it's like at this point, bro, you're already getting paid. You know how I feel about what quarterback you pay, but there's no excuses. Like you getting paid. So that's why you devoid of talent because they had to let everybody else go because we're trying to pay you yet.
You want to show up and throw four picks when we up we up by two. We up by six points and you can't add. That's my thing is like the last two playoff games he's played, he hasn't been able to put points on the board to end the game. Like in the game again, the game gets a Jaguars, but you just need it.
One more score and you win the game in this game against the Texans, bro. You probably only need one score in that first half to make things different. You thought who will get a separation out there? Because I know that second half Herbert was awful.
I could point to him for all of that. He threw some really bad. At first, the first half. Can we look at coaching for that?
No, because he over he over he was on a cross route that McConhee was going on. If he throws a perfect ball or a better ball, he catches that and runs into the touchdown for and don't for it. Touch that. What about the rest of the game?
Where's the first half? The rest of the first half, bro. It's on. I think this again, they were in the red zone, so they schemed up enough to go up down the field, but they couldn't punch it into the team enough to score a touchdown.
Grant again, they won 11 games and I'm thinking he could do something in one of these games. I'm not going to. To me, I can't say coaching is because they won six plus games and they did last year with a new head coach. So you can't tell me that the coach and let you down when he put you in this position to win.
No, what I'm asking is why didn't because Shelton pointed out the Chargers dominated and you even said earlier the Chargers completely controlled the first half, but not enough to put points. You also said they got into the red zone. You didn't give me a clear answer, but I know the answer is no, that they didn't scheme enough plays to get them into a position to score points when the Texans were struggling. The second half is on a Herbert and I'm not resolving him anything.
Those were awful, but that first half, they had a chance to put that game away while strout was they did. But my thing is the same thing that I was saying about borough is like, again, once you get paid, I don't like it's not on me to come to give you an exact reason why they didn't score in the red zone, but you should score in the red zone. The coach is supposed to be the reason. That's the guy we need to practice at all.
The coach is the one. Yeah, the court, we know a great way of rolling. He ain't doing shit, but to me, you can't place this on the coach because we've seen Herbert do these with multiple coaches. So it's like, who's like, it gets to the point about the team.
Do what? Not make the win plays or not making the decision. Yeah, you can say not do it. Yeah.
We do a lot. We do a lot just to all the fact that like, but it's just who the Chargers have always been historically. The Chargers have always been like, this curse, bro. Like they always gonna get in their own way.
We can go to the exit of the nose. Greg Roman is not really a playoff coordinator. You know, what is Jim Harbaugh's first year, Herbert's kind of a loser. You know what I mean?
He's a very talented loser. But at the end of the day, I mean, no, he's a really talented loser, but that didn't really, he's a fellow, Phillip Rivers was a talented loser too. And he balled out for them. But it's the Chargers do the Chargers don't do shit.
This is just how the organization has always been. There's nothing, I'm proclaiming right now. There is nothing they can do. There is nobody they can add.
There's no coach that they can go get. There's no QB that can go get. Look at that shit is over with. No, no, no, no, no.
You'll be a hyperbolic. You'll be a hyperbolic. Number one, hold on my wrist. I'm gonna get off.
No, no, no, no. Phillip Rivers who way better than the Red Cross. They had their souls. Money tumor.
They had like any kind of a thing. They were sick. And Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are broke. It's like they were about to be in each.
That means a lot. How many times have they been one? They've been one two rings in that area. You know what I mean?
They got one? He like what? Peyton Manning one two. Who else won?
Who else won? Who else won? You know, Rogers? One.
Drew Brees. I'm just gonna get one. One. Yeah, one.
Here's the thing that I think they did with Herbert. He needs all of these things to be good to be effective. That's not taken away from his talent. It's just saying Greg Womack can't be the person calling the plays for Herbert and us expecting him to win.
Herbert did not show up in his game. And he has to show that he's a better quarterback. And that has to happen. One with Harbaugh hiring a better office.
According to Greg Womack, not gonna be able to do it. The NFL has figured him out. Like they do bullshit that you do with the running plays and the lack of design that you have to get receivers open. That has to be better.
Yes, we can blame Herbert for a lot of this. But also it falls on the coaching staff when Harbaugh is like, oh, he's the best player ever. And I think he's one of the top quarterbacks. No, that's just not true.
He needs help. He needs help. Just like Trey, he needs help. And just like other quarterbacks who are good, not great, need help.
Like Herbert, we've seen the skill set. We know what he can do. But he doesn't have the capability to carry a team. Like one of the top quarterbacks in the league, my homes, Jackson, Allen, here.
I'm just like, I'm all the way there with you. I'm like, bro, you up 27 to fucking zero. Like I'm out here and shit. I'm out here.
Nothing else. I said, after Kyle Shanahan blew that shit, he won't ever want to go. And he ain't won once since. When he blew against the Falcons, I'm like, that's it.
I'm like, that's it. I don't need to see nothing else. Because when you blow a lead like that, that's mental, bro. That's mental.
And that means to me, you don't clutch up in clutch situations. And you can't teach that. There's nothing that they can go get organizationally that is going to make this work. Just like Herbert, to me, I'm proclaiming it.
I'm willing to be hyperbolic. He's a talented loser. Like he's going to be really good. He's going to have 5,000 art seasons.
But when it comes to the playoffs, I don't see none of that should happen. And if I'm wrong, I'll be the first one to come here. I'm fucking wrong. But I don't think I'm going to be wrong.
And it's a total of them to go off at that point. And we're going to play offs now. So the regular season over, I don't have to be mild matter no more. If Herbert and them don't want to play all game next year, if I pick up the Vikens, and I make a trade for JJ McCart.
They're not giving them up. They're not giving them up. Don't be upset. They're not giving them up.
They're not giving them up. They're not giving them up. I'm letting them go because I can restart the rookie thing. Because at that point, JJ would be in his 20th, going into his third year.
I'm letting it go because, bro, what we can't even trade for? What we can't even trade for? We can't even trade for you. We can't even trade for you.
We can't trade for you. That's what I'm saying. No one's already here. All the way, girls, I think it's crazy.
Do you all see what you're saying, bro? Y'all want to try? Here's LA. Come on, bro.
It's long as you pay the job. LA PD. All that matter. Yeah, put the cup down.
We can go on. Rip it more than anything else. You get credit to the Vico rights for holding them in this game. Because, like I said, they'll get dominated, man, until the second to the last possession of the half.
And to only be down six-nothing, that's the defense. You go tell your team, you're going to tell your team, you all are held together. All we need to do is score. And we up.
And they did just that. And after that, they had all of them and he made the defense step up to win this game, speaks volumes to how good he is in his league. I think he's a really underrated coach. And to that, I will say, like, Harbaugh thinks that Herbert is a lot better than he is.
He's going to need, as the head coach, a much better OC in order for Herbert to be successful. Otherwise, we'll get to the first round of play. Rick, Roman, this is home, you know. That's the hard one.
Hey, man, like sometimes you got to tell your homie, break your game, couldn't it? Question. And then we're going to move on. Let's be brief.
Do you guys think that Harbaugh really believes that? Or he's just saying that? I think he did until this playoff game. So you didn't say that after the playoff game.
He said that before. He said that he said going into the season that he thought Herbert was the best quarterback in the league. After he seen him throw four picks in his playoff game, I'm sure he's reconsidering that. OK, OK, cool.
Gotcha. Yeah. All right. Moving on.
Let's go to another man that the haters second. Lamar Jackson, actually, it's a bit of praise, man. I think we should be celebrating what we saw with the Ravens. Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens, the Marshall Pittsburgh Steelers at home 28 to 14.
No surprise to anyone on this panel, because we all picked the Ravens. What should Tomlin do about the QB situation? Go into that season. Nick, I got to give you some props, bro, because I know I know this ain't the question you wanted to ask.
But I think the question you wanted to ask, I put the rest at least for the time being. So let's do it. The hate. The hate.
No, come on. I want to talk. I want you to talk first. I'll sweep it up later.
Y'all go ahead and talk. We'll start with Q since he said they was going to the division and do some bullshit. I mean, they collapsed. Dude, I think you got to kind of ride with Justin Fields.
I mean, they lost five in a row. I think that's the definition of a collapse. But depending on how you look at it, like I was saying last time, man, they went into the season. Everyone expected this team to win six games, five games, seven games, right?
In that range, they expected it to not get to playoffs. They didn't see anything good for this team. This team got a 10-3 with Russell Wilson getting the switch. Everyone said, oh, man, at that time, you have people saying, Tomlin, coach of the year.
Oh my god, they finally did it. This is the year. I thought the team was a great team. And I still think it is a great collection of talent.
But what happens, I mean, I think that they just caught bad breaks towards the end of the year, where you lost five key defensive players going into the Philly game, you lose pickings going into that game. They rested pickings until the Kansas City game. But in 11 days, where you've lost six key players, you've got to play Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, and then you play Kansas City on Christmas Day. That's a gauntlet of a schedule going down the streets.
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. That's not real. That's just real. You lost six key players like the Sean Elliott.
You lost 11 days. Yeah, in 11 days, they lost key players. You can't expect them to go into it and win all the games. I mean, in the end of the day, I haven't even finished because the problem is, is that I think they had a lot of bad breaks.
And people lost context of how far, once again, the team over achieved. People want to coordinate Mike Tomlin, and I think people want to see Mike Tomlin get a ring, like really, really bad. But we jumped the gun again by not keeping shit in context. The team over achieved.
And that doesn't negate the fact that it was a piss-poor performance on Saturday. But dude, there's just a lot going on within the organization that I feel like people are going to gloss over and just throw it in Mike Tomlin's feet, which a lot of it's fair, but a lot of it to me is just, it's just not within the actual context of the season. People thought this team was trash, and you get to play off against Baltimore, and just shit the bet, man. I think you got to go in next year, Justin Fields, see what he has, either open that book or close that chapter, depending on how he plays, and then go from there.
Now, look, my thing is this, we know that Russ, Russ is cooked. Everybody said let Russ cook, Russ is well done. He, you know, he, I believe that. Yes, I believe that.
In the reason why, look, I didn't necessarily believe that in Denver, but I believe it now in Sean Payton's side, and he knew he couldn't win with it. The issue with Russell Wilson is he's not able to get to third fourth reads. It's touchdown, check down, that's it. And then he's not mobile enough, because the thing is, is that when Russell Wilson had success with Seattle, he had the mobility to create.
Is his arm cooked? No, he still throws one of the best deep balls in the game. Pause. He still throws one of the best long balls in the game.
The issue is he doesn't have the mobility to get to those reads, because he wasn't reading those in the pocket. And he's still not reading it in the pocket however, many years later, and that's an issue for any, any head coach, any OC, because look, let's be honest, at bare minimum, you got to get to your third read. You got to get to your third read. The people, the third read is Van Jefferson.
Like, what does it matter though? Like, it does. It does. It does.
It does. But people, it does though. See, let's finish. Please try me.
And hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. So why can't I say to say to Jefferson Jefferson? I mean, I mean, just a Herbert.
Because just a Herbert is 27 to zero. If the Steelers were up 27 to zero, then they lost his game. I'm like, oh, come on. Just a Herbert has the size prerequisites to play the position or the prototypical size that you want at that position.
He has the arm. Russell Wilson is a, not a shell of himself, but he doesn't have the mobility to overcome. That's just always lacks. I just think that's a little issue.
I just think that's a little issue. That's a little issue. I don't want to lose the film. I don't want to lose the film.
I don't want to lose the film. He's a little freaky. Roger Jones, don't let him get the third read. He snaps the ball.
He's getting sacked within one second. And then when he puts the ball, people go, wait, wait. When he puts the ball, wait, wait. When he puts the ball on, Pat Fire moves hands on Christmas Day, Pat Fire moves fucking Fumbles.
And it's 17 to 24. And then Casey goes on Avalanche downhill. And now they're spanking the Steelers at home. And ultimately, the only reason, the only game that Russell Wilson is just starting quarterbacking you, not a championship contender.
Not a championship. Not a championship. Simple. That's kind of fucking.
That's why. I don't think this is the herb that just feels. That's not true. Or feel.
I agree. I'll come to her. Either way. OK.
Herbert, I know why I shouldn't have said her because I mentioned him in this conversation. I agree, Shelton. Justin Herbert is that we can't consider him a championship level quarterback right now. You're saying CJ Stradd is still to be seen.
He's still on the up and down. It's only four quarterbacks that are championship level. Right. And I don't think you have to be like this otherworldly QB.
I think that charges are just cursed. I think the Steelers, you can have a team that can get you the victory. I think a team victory is very much so possible in Pittsburgh. We've seen that with the team in 2017, like the Eagles.
We've seen that happen where all you have to do is just get hot for a run. What's that? I had to steal this one of the champions. No.
What are you? All right. In 2020. I'm going to get a little bit of a low chance.
A whole time, FIFA. Where are you going to spike? What are your thoughts, Shelton? What do they need to do with the quarterbacks?
Well, first of all, I think they need to move on for Pickens. I'll say that. I know that's not a good back question. But move on from Pickens.
And I thought about that long and hard. Then at first, until first. But yesterday before that game, I was thinking like you look at Take a Fly on Sam Donald to bring in another business. Did you hear us?
Yeah. The only reason I said this is because Mike Tomlin, you know, he threw the ball around. I don't like Sam. We know how I feel about Sam Donald.
But Mike Tomlin could use that on that team to throw the ball around a little bit. But that's crazy. Was that before it happened? No.
Keep going. Keep going. It was before it was before it was before it was before. Yeah.
Because I was like, I knew he was going to be himself. I had no doubt he would revert back himself. But I'm thinking the only thing that can keep him going at this point would be Mike Tom. A coach like Mike Tomlin that kind of hit him out.
Yeah. Bad. Like Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields and now you've been talking about Sam Donald to come in here all of these years even with old Ben Roblesburg. We've been asking Mike Tomlin to come through, winning the playoffs and do these things.
And he's had trash ass quarterbacks. We don't ask that from any other head coach in this league. Like now we got Justin Fields out here from the first part of the season. He did.
OK. And we got fucking Russell Wilson out here. You want him to go win playoff games with a team who Mike Tomlin coached up to 10 wins. That's insane.
And I think Mike Tomlin took original question that you asked him. It says a lot about Tomlin that he's even had this team in his position. Well, we're spending $4 million at the quarterback position. No other team in the league is doing it.
Everybody else has been in 20, 30, 40 million on a quarterback. We asking him to go figure this shit out with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. It ain't fair to Mike Tomlin. I know Nick will have a problem with this.
But the real answer to this question is the stillness of the get a fucking quarterback. They need to quit trying to match that shit together. I don't know who it ain't my job. I'm not back to him.
But they need to figure that shit out and quit putting Tomlin out there with people like Justin Fields and people like Russell Wilson and people like old-ass men Roblesburg and expect him to win games. Even though they did that to him as a blackhead coach. He's still like, I'm still going to win games and go to the playoffs and being people like Nick like, oh, you went to the playoffs. You got to win now.
Like, no, Nick, I ain't had a quarterback since being Roblesburg who was in his prime. That was 25, 30 years ago. That's the reason. Let me rephrase it.
I'm supposed to get a quarterback. I'm supposed to get a quarterback. No, that's not O.E. And that's not on Mike Tomlin.
That's on the GM and the owner. Y'all need to figure that shit out. I go out here. I do.
I do. I do. I do. Look, I got a great hold of that shit.
Over-tee games. Go get Joe Milton from New England. Oh, Jesus Christ. I've heard.
But in the NFL, he's winning too much. What the fuck? Like, wait, wait. And then if he went 4 and 12, you know what?
I was over. You know, if he went 4 and 13 a bit, then it's getting out of here. And let's go get Mike Rebel. And it's just like, I don't understand on one side.
We can't have it both ways here. You can't give me Saudi Miller and Van Jefferson. And then tell me that Russell Wilson is the final. And then we have Roger Jones and these terrible, oh, I'm like, damn, more who can't hold anybody back.
And then the defense is not playing because half the team got fucking flu. It's just on the man, bro. Two things. Two things.
Two open doors to three fours called trades. Who is trading a franchise QB? Nobody's trading a franchise QB. That's something.
That's something. Hey, Jerry Jones, why is that? That's something different. And then here's the other thing.
Here's the other thing. When I was watching this Steelers team, right? And just overall, regardless of whatever the catalyst is to them making the playoffs, whether it's the greatness of Tomlin, the defense, whatever it is, right? What they are are the mid 2000s at Lanahawks.
They're talented. They're good enough to make the playoffs, but they're not championship contender. And when you're stuck in purgatory like that, you coach. I don't disagree, Spike.
I don't disagree. I'm a Tomlin guy. I'm not my name is not Nick. Mr.
Disrespect. That's not my name. My name is FIFA 24 seven. I'll keep it a real 24 seven.
They are stuck in purgatory. They're good enough for whatever reason that you want to say that they are. Was it defense, Tomlin, whatever have you? They're good enough to make the playoffs, but they're not a championship contender.
And when you're stuck there for all these years, guess what happens? When you draft, you draft mediocre talent because you're not drafting at the top, right? And then because of the success, you don't have a lot. You're starting to pay guys.
TJ, why got paid Alex? Heist, move got paid. Who the old guy that's on the line as well? He got paid.
Me got paid. There's a lot of people that got paid. So you don't have the financial flexibility to just go squaring to free agency. So they are stuck in purgatory.
And all I'm saying is that the Steelers need to make moves to you have to reset. You know, this is what's going to happen next year. That's not Mike Tomlin's job. Mike Tomlin's job is to go out there and win nine to 10 games a year.
And he's done that. And people like Nick are giving him criticism because he doesn't have a quarterback because he wins nine to 10 games. And I see the chance saying, okay, where's he supposed to go to the quarterback from? That ain't his job.
It's the GM's job. It's the owner's job that's on them. Y'all bring me a good quarter. I cannot.
I cannot. Yeah. Can I cannot? Can I just want to make a quick quick quick quick quick?
And then I'm not going to tee. I'm not going to tee. I was hoping you'll build this season since week 15 have not had to lead at all in any of their games played. There's still a defensive last.
It's playoff losses have a lot of 38 points per game over 40 to 50 yards per game and have a lot of 18 faster touchdowns with only one interception. And that's what I'm going to because I do agree with Lou that draft like a GM's job is a GM's job. He's supposed to bring in talent. The sense big band, they've only drafted Kenny Pickett as a quarterback.
And I knew everybody knew going into that draft class. Like he was not it. But the Steelers started back in Philly. The Steelers are the Steelers.
They're not going to they're similar to like the AFC North really kind of moves very similarly when it comes to how they don't move off a draft. They don't trade up. They don't do a lot of stuff. They stay and they stay and they spot regardless.
They just want to pick what they get. Um, and the Steelers haven't they're not going to fire Mike Tomlin because they've had three coaches in the last 50 plus years. So they just don't stay stagnant. My criticism of Tomlin isn't about Tomlin.
It's about the Steelers because to me if Tomlin was coaching somewhere else, I think he would be a lot more successful. However, he's coaching for the Steelers and they're fine with at least they're showing that they're fine with being relevant enough but not great enough because they would have made moves on the roster to do something if they really wanted to compete, especially after Big Ben. But my main thing as far as the criticism I do have a time when he's supposed to be a defensive coach. The stats that just can't just brought up shows that one, his defense is getting old and they can't do what they used to do because you give enough.
You average in 30 plus points given up. That says a lot. And also if you're talking about the money fee for they're the only team I believe that has more money on their defense in offense. Like the year that Big Ben got hurt, I think with his elbow and the year that they traded for Mika was the year that Big Ben got hurt.
That was the they traded their first round pick for Mika for his match. And that's when I remember I came on here and I was like, what the fuck is they doing? Why would you do all that shit? Because I told y'all about trade over DBs and mostly safeties.
This shit don't mean nothing. It don't help you. When I asked Atlanta, I asked the Chargers, I asked that as Pittsburgh. It don't mean nothing.
That was the year they were supposed to get a high draft pick for QB. You see the Bengals do it. You see the Ravens trade up to get Lamar. You've even seen the Browns suck enough to get a high draft pick.
Even though it doesn't work out for them, but they still are able to do that. Until the Pittsburgh Steelers are trying to do that, they're not trying to win. So that's the reason why I'm like, bro, we talk about this team as a, but money don't sit perfectly on this podcast. We talk about it still as they're a championship organization and stuff like that.
Them championships has been the 70s. You know what I'm saying? There's only a few niggas that still lie there. You remember those days.
So like between now, they won two titles since then, but it's been hell along since then. So to me, my thing is, for my thing is, they already came out and said they're not firing time in. And as far as the answer questions, for the QB situation, they have to go with just Justin Fields at this point. Because like you said, but you lost five straight and you didn't have a lead in any of those games.
And that's going against the Bengals who Sheldon and others have said, we're not a good team this year. And you still, and you lost that game at home. So to me, it's like you have no other choice, but because this free agency class ain't got no QB's coming out. The draft class, you're not picking the top three, you're not going to get no good one unless you're taking a reach.
So you just got to stick with what you got and then wait till next year, you're going to get the fields over Sam Durham. Yes. I think it's better because if you go with Justin Fields, it's a win-win. If you're going to that season, no, I'm going to tell you why it's a win-win.
You're going to that season where in spikes perspective, it'd be a miracle, but the miracle happens and he's magically a good quarterback, right? That's a win. And then on the other side, he's terrible and you get a top-eye pick. And then if you're a time when you go into that season being like, bro, I know y'all are cheap because Omar Khan and Dan Rooney, ever since the first Rooney died, they haven't been aggressive and their scouting and their prospects haven't been good.
And the reason why it can't just be a time when thing is because Omar Khan has a job to do at GM and the GM job that he's done, it hasn't been bad. But dude, you go into the season like I'm saying with Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller as your second and third option, Pickens is going to get bracketed every single game. They're going to double him every game and you're expecting Pat Fire move to beat one-on-one every single time. That's not a good, that's not a good recipe for success, especially when Russell Wilson can't see over the line, he has a Drew Brees line of vision where you have to be all timing reps.
So if you don't even have the people who can get separation, you're setting your quarterback up to fail. And even when Justin Fields was in there, he only scored three touchdowns in six weeks. So it's like, we're talking about structural issues. The 49ers and the Eagles still find ways to pay people and they are in either Super Bowl, NFC Championships every other year.
You know what I'm saying? They're in contention. They're in the playoffs. And yeah, they can still get sick on Barkley.
They can still pay for premium left-tackles. They can still make trades for McCaffries. And the Steelers are over here just like, let's just wave the towel and hope that the 70s wins us a fucking ring. That's not going to happen.
They don't want to, they don't want to hold nobody. They don't want to hold nobody. They don't want to give a draft pick. That's the way I'm like.
We got to change that philosophy, man. And then, but until they don't, like they just want to be what they got. That's what I'm firing with. Like yeah, keep timing in there.
They get the, they just want to be able to go right this back next year. Like I always say, you got to get sick. He'll get your hype. He'll get your hype up for a regular season like he always do.
And he's going to lose an early my helipse. I agree with human in the sense of the philosophy needs to change, but I only agree with that in the sense of the quarterback. They need to figure out how to get better quarterbacks into their system. They haven't drafted or had a good quarterback since being rocked.
It was there. I'm not blaming it on Mike Tomlin. I'm blaming it on the system. The Steelers and the junior.
That's good. That's not as good as for everything. It is that simple. That team, these teams have been very good and gotten to the playoffs consistently year after the Mike Tomlin.
They have not been good enough, bro. Yeah. And they have. They have.
They take enough. I'm saying they make it to the playoffs. They're very good. They've been good enough to make it to the playoffs.
If Mike Tomlin did not have a losing season, if the Steelers were like, OK, we're going to make sure we find you a good quarterback, then it would be different. They haven't took that commitment on. No, record about some. Be on the rock.
And the Cardinals smile. Kyle Merrick. If they still said Kyle Merrick, they probably would be more successful. Oh, no.
The Steelers not even trying. You remember one pick. That's what I'm saying. Like Luke, the thing that Mike Tomlin has to do is have a losing season.
Once he has a losing season, we can talk about this before. Mike Tomlin has shown that he cannot develop quarterbacks because he didn't develop any picket at all. And he also can't capitalize on quarterbacks because he didn't capitalize on Big Ben. But that's fine.
He didn't capitalize because he won the championship with Big Ben. He won the championship. No, he won the championship. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Tomlin is the CEO type of head coach, bro. He is not sharp. He is not sharp. That's working out.
What do you mean? He made the playoffs with me over the talent every year. He elevates the talent. That's why.
That's why. That's why. One last point, Ken. We talked about you said he did capitalize on Ben Rock's brother.
Did Mike McCarthy capitalize on Aaron Rodgers? Yes. No, he did not. One of the people always talking about Mike McCarthy didn't.
And that's a great one. Nick Nick. They should have won more times. They should have won more times because if you look at that, they was Ross.
They were big Ben was in his. It's not like Big Ben was in his was. He was trying to finish. Hold on, let me finish.
