On Ukrainian Jewish Heritage, the author of The Sea is Only Knee Deep (recently reviewed on the show here) talks about her experiences growing up as a Jewish girl in Odessa, marrying a Cuban she met at university and then moving to live in Cuba, the dangers she encountered while working at a secret naval base in Cuba during the second Cuban Missile Crisis, and her subsequent plans to defect to Canada.
