God’s Infinite Glory Understanding the nature of God using Systematic Theology God is infinite and eternal Isaiah 40: 12-31 NKJV Isaiah 66:1-2 Job 11:7-9 Rom 11:33, Ps. 145:3 What is Systematic Theology A type of book which is a Bible study tool, similar to a commentary. Studying the Bible by category and doctrine, rather than through narrative. Often more analytical and technical. Attempts to delineate Christian doctrine efficiently. Typical Topics Theology proper – The study of the character of God Christology – The study of Christ Pneumatology – The study of the Holy Spirit Eschatology – The study of the end times Hamartiology – The study of sin Theological anthropology – The study of the nature of humanity. Ecclesiology – The study of the church Soteriology – The study of salvation Bibliology – The study of the Bible God is infinite and eternal God is infinite in all His attributes God is “uncomposed”, not made of parts with different qualities. Not inconsistent, but rather, perfect in every way. Not divided, but rather one indivisible Being. ● Infinite in Time (eternal) ● Infinite in Power and Ability (Omnipotent) ● Infinite in Presence and Access (Omnipresent) ● Infinite in Knowledge (Omniscient) Psalm 147:4-6 Psalm 90:2 Isaiah 57:15 1 Timothy 1:17 KJV Does this matter to me personally? God is also infinitely righteous Isaiah 6:1 - 5 How many sins result in condemnation? An infinite God who is infinitely righteous delivers infinite judgements. It’s not about the size of the sin, it’s about the size of the God we sin against. Nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:27 NASB1995 What is the cost of sin? Ye who think of sin but lightly Nor suppose the evil great Here may view its nature rightly Here its guilt may estimate Mark the sacrifice appointed See who bears the awful load 'Tis the Word, the Lord's Anointed Son of Man and Son of God How great is the gift of salvation? Ephesians 2:4-10 Psalm 103:10-12 Summary Systematic Theology - A Bible study tool that groups verses by doctrine or topic. Example from Theology Proper - the study of God’s character ● Infinite in power, presence, knowledge, time ● Also infinite in righteousness and holiness Sin is viewed rightly when you look at God, not humanity. ● Sin creates an infinite distance between us and God ● God provided an infinite solution by an infinite Saviour - Himself
