Nina Friedrich on why (and how) you should transition your career to high-impact animal advocacy

My guest today is Nina Friedrich, the Executive Director of High Impact Professionals (HIP). HIP helps experienced professionals move into work tackling some of the world’s most pressing problems, including farmed animal welfare. Nina has a PhD in mathematics from Cambridge University and previously worked as a software engineer and strategy consultant before making a career change towards more altruistic work herself.In this episode, we talk about why moving into animal advocacy can be such an impactful and fulfilling choice, particularly for people who already have years of professional experience. We discuss which skills the movement needs most, the trade-offs involved in changing careers and how people can test the waters for what they might want to do, before quitting their jobs.We also explore HIP’s different programmes, common mistakes job applicants make and also what animal advocacy organisations could do better when trying to attract experienced professionals.As a heads up, this episode is pitched at a slightly different audience than usual.
