Essendon.But amid the wreckage, we found some genuine gems.Basilico’s on Parramatta Road.A footballer with a magnificent rat’s tail.And a phoenix rising from the ashes to give us something to believe in......until he got injured.Like the rest of the bloody team.So, is there pressure on the players heading into 2027 to drag this club back into September? Of course.But surely the people whose actual job is to get the players fit and ready to play football are under an even bigger microscope?Maybe it really was just bad luck.Or maybe there’s a voodoo witch doctor somewhere in Melbourne sticking pins into tiny orange-and-charcoal dolls.At this point, either feels plausible.Then there’s Toby. Will he stay? We bloody hope so.But after everything that man has given this club, he’s earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants.What. A. Legend.And then come the farewells. Farewell Briggsy. Farewell Hoges. Farewell Package. Thank you kindly for the blood, sweat and tears.
