One week after the Maroons beat Billings Central in the Class A title game in Butte, Butte High beat Great Falls High in the Class AA championship game on St. Patrick's Day in Missoula. The real state championship game that season was played on Dec. 14, 1983. Butte High beat Butte Central in an overtime classic at the Civic Center.
