Brian James Leech is the author of “The City That Ate Itself: Butte, Montana and Its Expanding Berkeley Pit.” That book tells the story of the Berkeley Pit swallowing up the neighborhoods of McQueen, Meaderville and East Butte. It should be required reading for anyone living in Butte and Montana. Even though he grew up in Bozeman, Leech saw through the stigma of the Mining City and looked into the eyes of the people.
