No Ideas Original Podcast Episode 156 "KMEL" Featuring Dj Glenn Aure
from No Ideas Original Podcast · host No Ideas Original Podcast
DJ Glenn Aure was born and raised in the Bay Area. He learned how to play the drums at the early age of 9, which helped him understand the theory of measures, tempo, and syncopation. Glenn began collecting his own vinyl to start building up his own collection of music. Inspired by DJ legends on the radio (Cameron Paul, Michael Erickson, Alex Mejia, Theo), Glenn continued to work on his craft and carving out his own style of DJing. In 1991, Glenn participated in the local 106 KMEL Radio “Battle of The DJs” contest which he won and earned a guest spot on the station. That guest spot eventually led to a permanent weekend mix show slot on the station. Glenn was eventually asked by Sway to be his DJ on the weekly KMEL 10 o’clock Bomb show, which centered around highlighting new music and artists. They helped introduce and break many artists and songs on this platform. A bigger break for Glenn would come in 1994 as Sway was promoted to Morning Drive and brought Glenn in as his Morning Show DJ. Glenn was heard daily in the mix, providing that music soundtrack to the Bay Area listeners. After a few years of doing Morning Drive, Sway left KMEL for MTV which then led to Glenn becoming Music Director for KMEL. As the station’s Music Director, Glenn was responsible for choosing and programming what music got played on the station. He helped mold the sound of KMEL and the Bay Area. Glenn also worked for labels such as Epic, Republic, and Def Jam Records, serving as Radio Promotions for these companies. #djglennaure #dj #kmel #bayarea #hiphop #rap #radio #radiostation #music #podcast #noideasoriginalpodcast #interview #spotify #youtube #soundcloud #defjam #epic #radiopromotions
