What this episode covers
In Part 2, Lindsay Phenix gets into the coaching side of her life — what she sees first-time 100-miler athletes get wrong (doing too much, too fast), why you have to run slower to run faster, and what direct constant communication looks like when you're coaching athletes across three time zones simultaneously. She also digs into the actual science of pain at 100 miles versus a marathon (your body can only feel so much pain at once, and a quad that's destroying you at mile 30 will stop hurting when your back takes over — which is weird but real), what heat training and road miles actually prepare you for at Badwater that nothing else does, and what she saw while hallucinating at the Cruel Jewel 100 in Georgia (Dolly Parton, following her through the woods, not there). She also gives the most honest answer in the episode to the question of whether she's running toward something or away from something: she doesn't know, and she suspects finding out might make the running stop. The finish she's proudest of is her first Badwater — the one that went wrong — because that's the race that taught her something.
