At 6:52 on the 19th of January 1917, an event would occur which would change an area of London for decades after, irreparably damaging it. A munitions factory in the heart of the bustling industrial area of Silvertown had hastily replaced the production line of a former caustic soda factory and was now in the hands of people who didn’t know what they were doing with such a dangerous material. With world war one dragging on and driving the country into an ammunition shortage, England created several huge munitions factories to deal with the crises and over the period of 3 years, 3 of them would be reduced to smouldering ruins when their stock exploded.
