No Private Faith

“Faith is personal” sounds mature and polite, but it can quietly turn the gospel into something we keep under a basket. We kick off Monday with Jesus’ words from Matthew 5:14–16, where he calls us the light of the world and makes it clear that light is meant to be seen. A lamp belongs on a stand, not hidden in a safe corner of our lives. We dig into the cultural message that says religion should stay private and why Scripture pushes the other direction. Romans 10 asks the hard question: how will anyone believe if they never truly hear? And even in the United States, where people recognize the name “Jesus,” we still have to ask which Jesus they’ve been shown: the Jesus of the Bible or a version shaped by someone else’s agenda. Public faith is not about being loud; it’s about being clear, faithful, and present in the real world where people live with real questions. We also look at the cost and courage of early Christian witness, from church tradition about the apostles to Paul’s bold decision to take the message all the way to Rome. Then we turn inward with an honest gut check about fruit and hypocrisy: if we claim Christ, our lives should match the claim, not blend in so well that no one can tell the difference. Before you move on with your day, take the challenge: have one intentional conversation with someone outside your immediate family where you bring up your faith or what God is doing in your life.
