However, fully abolishing the department necessitates congressional approval, which is currently lacking. Anyone with a BASIC AF civics education already knows this.However, as of March 2025, the Trump administration has implemented significant budgetary reductions within the U.S. Department of Education (DOE):​* Workforce Reduction: The DOE's workforce has been reduced by approximately 50%, equating to around 2,200 positions.
