The Allah Team Radio presents: The History of the NOI Series “An Interview with AL-Mu'assis Karriem ABdAllah, Martial Arts Champion and Creator of the K.A. system of Karate, Newark, NJ, Mosque #25” AL-Mu'assis Karriem ABdAllah is the 1st Black man and Muslim in the history of the United States of America to create his own system of karate. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, at 15 Karriem ABdAllah became a Muslim in 1959 and a FOI at 17 in 1962 under Min. James Shabazz of Newark’s Mosque No. 25. He received the name "Karriem Allah" by the Hon. Elijah Muhammad in 1964. In 1962 he started karate and became a prize student under his only martial arts teacher, the legendary Sensei James Cheatham whom he studied under for 3 years until his untimely death in a plane crash May 30,1966. In 1967 Karriem opened his first karate dojo. He created and developed the KA System of Karate and trained over 15,000 people From 1967-1977, and was successful in karate tournaments of that same era.For the next 10 years (1977-1987) he traveled the circuit as a trainer in kick boxing, amateur and professional boxing also working alongside Muhammad Ali in his camp. In 1987 Karriem completed his first book, The K.A. System of Karate "The Freestyle Crouch" which was released January 1988. Karriem Abdallah was inducted into the NJ State Martial Arts Hall of Fame on Dec. 5, 2014, and inducted into the Newark Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 22, 2015.
