Norbert Sachser ist Professor für Zoologie und leitet das Institut für Verhaltensbiologie an der Universität Münster - er ist international renommiert und gilt als Wegbereiter der deutschen Verhaltensbiologie. Was er und Kollegen beschreiben, kann man eine Revolution des Tierbildes nennen: "Wir wissen heute, wie ähnlich uns viele Tiere im Empfinden und Verhalten sind und dass sich unter anderem bei Säugetieren und auch Vögeln nachweisen lässt: Sie haben Persönlichkeit” (Sachser). Welche rechtlichen, moralischen und politischen Konsequenzen folgen daraus? Sachser spricht über Wohl und Würde der Tiere, über das (menschengemachte) Leid von Haustieren, Tierrechte aber auch über die Reflexion des Tierbildes in Kultur, Geschichte und Wissenschaft.
