Nor’easter caused ‘major’ damage in 10 shore towns, NJ DEP report says
from KYW Newsradio Audio On-Demand
Homes and infrastructure threatened by dune loss in Brigantine. Two hundred feet of sloped beach erosion in North Wildwood. Those shore points — along with Atlantic City and Stone Harbor — are among those that fared the worst in last month's nor'easter, according to an assessment by state environmental officials. They inspected dozens of sections of shoreline and found "major" damage in 10 towns. State coastal engineers report 15-foot vertical "scarping" — where the dunes drop off like a sheer cliff — in parts of Atlantic City. Much of Stone Harbor sustained about 10-foot scarping. Their findings go to the Army Corps of Engineers to help coordinate recovery and beach replenishment.
