North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs on Her GOP Opponent's Attempt to Toss 60k Ballots

from Defending Democracy with Marc Elias · host Democracy Docket

The race for the North Carolina Supreme Court isn't over, even more than a month after Election Day. Incumbent Justice Allison Riggs (D), a former voting rights lawyer, defeated her opponent Judge Jefferson Griffin (R) by just over 700 voters. Still, Griffin has requested two recounts and is challenging the validity of over 60,000 ballots cast in the race — including the votes of Riggs' own parents. Justice Riggs sits down with Marc Elias to discuss the race, the status of the ballot challenges and why she still believes the judiciary is a powerful tool to protect democracy.
