North Carolina Weather: 02-22-2026

from The North Carolina Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the North Carolina Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd. Folks, winter just picked a fight with the mountains, and it's not playing fair. Let's get into it. Up around Asheville, snow showers roll in by 5 A.M. Highs barely scratch 37 degrees before cratering to 18 tonight. Winds at 22 miles an hour push the feels like temperature down to 18 degrees by 4 A.M. That's the kind of cold that stings your lungs. Higher elevations could see up to a foot of snow. Avery and Mitchell Counties are under Winter Storm Warnings. If you're anywhere above 3,500 feet, those roads will be treacherous. Now slide east into the Piedmont and Triangle. You're waking up to rain, heaviest around 7 A.M., tapering off by 18 degrees. Highs touch 50 degrees, then temperatures nosedive to freezing by midnight. Northwest wind gusts hit 32 miles an hour by noon. Strong enough to send your recycling bin on an adventure. And here's a sneaky twist. Near Roxboro and Henderson tonight, a brief snow flurry could sneak through. Nothing major, but enough to make you do a double take. Tonight, nobody escapes the chill. Lows hit 28 in the Piedmont, 20 in the mountains, 31 in the Triangle. Wind chills shave off another 18 degrees to 15 degrees. Monday stays blustery with highs only in the mid 40s and gusts near 30 miles an hour. The week ahead tells a wild story though. Tuesday brings sunshine but stays cool near 49 degrees. Wednesday? A 20 degree jump to 61. That's whiplash weather. Thursday and Friday, rain moves back in with highs near 64. Next weekend dries out with low 60s. One quick thing. If you're enjoying these daily updates, share us with a neighbor. Word of mouth keeps this going. Grab a warm mug and keep those layers close. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
