North Carolina Weather March 3 Evening - 42° Above Normal

from The North Carolina Weather Podcast

Good evening. North Carolina. I'm Jack O'Malley. Fifty-six degrees right now under partly cloudy skies. And that mild overnight low of 39? That was your first clue. Something has shifted. That stubborn cold air damming parked over us? It's gone. A Bermuda High has set up shop off the coast, pumping warm southerly air straight into the state. In the next 24 hours. We're looking at highs tomorrow in the mid-70s. That's about 42 degrees above normal for early March. Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies statewide. Lows dip to 47 degrees in the Piedmont and Triangle. Down in Western North Carolina, it's a bit cooler at 42 degrees. One heads-up for your Wednesday morning commute: patchy fog could develop, especially in the foothills and south of I-85. Give yourself a few extra minutes. Wednesday brings the real reward. The Triangle hits 75 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The Piedmont reaches 74 with a mix of sun and clouds. Out west. Asheville and surrounding areas climb to 74 degrees as well. Light winds, comfortable humidity. This is the kind of day that makes you want to take lunch outside. Thursday turns even warmer. Highs near 79 in the Triangle, 78 in the Piedmont, 76 in the west. We're now pushing 42 degrees above normal. Friday and Saturday? We're flirting with record territory. Highs in the low 80s across central North Carolina. That's weather more typical of late April. But A cold front approaches Sunday, bringing rain chances and possibly a few thunderstorms. Monday stays unsettled before we dry out again. Tonight's full moon rises at sunset. With temperatures in the 40s and 50s overnight, it'll be a pleasant evening to step outside and look up. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day now. And the spring equinox sits just two weeks away. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
