North West Farmers braced for major EU changes

There's trepidation and concern amongst many farmers in the North West today ahead of the publication of the new CAP scheme.  The EU's post 2027 farm policy will be revealed later with fears that agriculture could lose out on a major funding source. Reports suggest the European Commission is planning to fold the Common Agriculture Policy in with other sectors in a simplified centralised mega fund. Midlands North West MEP, Ciaran Mullooly, says he's concerned about the changes that could be made to the CAP as well as being worried that not enough is being done to support young farmers entering into the sector
