North Words: Tough as a Mother

from WCNY Community FM · host WCNY Community FM

This month, we'll hear from former Canadian indie rocker Rob Benvie. He pivoted to a career as a novelist about 20 years ago, and brings us his newest work, "The Damagers." It tells the story of two sisters who stumble across a cult in the Adirondacks and fall under the spell of its charismatic leader. Then, a conversation with Austin Albanese, a writer and independent researcher, who has documented the history of Jewish congregations in small northern New York towns. He explains how these histories are reflective of civic life as a whole. And then we meet Jenn Hildreth, a Norwood, NY, native who now appears on your TV screen as an ESPN soccer commentator. She's got a new book out called "Tough as a Mother." In it, she profiles outstanding women athletes who have succeeded in their careers while juggling the responsibilities of motherhood. From North Creek to South Colton, from Old Forge to New Bremen, North Words brings you interviews, on-site recordings, and special features that remind us what makes the North Country region so special. WCNY Community FM is pleased to present this monthly show from our colleagues at North Country Public Radio.
