The Agony in Your Feet Have you ever felt like your feet and toes were on fire? maybe it feels like you were walking on glass. These can be symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. First, it can start like a little numbness that is barely noticeable. Then pins and needles in the toes that go up into your feet to your legs. At this point, you probably don't even pay it much attention. A few Tylenol or Advil and you go about your day. Now, what happens when the symptoms start getting a little more serious. The burning feet pain starts to keep you awake at night. That you can deal with. Now let me ask you are you concerned that this might be something more serious? Peripheral neuropathy occurs when the covering on the nerve gets eaten away. This usually happens from diabetes or from chemotherapy. Too much sugar damages the nerve preventing the brain from effectively communicating with the body part. Something similar happens when cancer patients undergo chemotherapy. The chemotherapy that kills cancer also damages the nerve. People who consume too much alcohol face the same issues. You might think it's no big deal. There are medications to help with neuropathy. Sometimes they do, but what about when they don't? What starts innocently as numbness can progress easily to balance issues which often lead to serious falls. Then falls lead to hip fractures and nursing homestays. The medications do not help with the balance and they do not help rebuild the nerve vital nerve covering. Neuropathy@CoreHealth offers a solution to the potentially dangerous side effects of peripheral neuropathy. There are many cutting edge treatments that reverse the effects of neuropathy.
